Flat design is a 2010s trend in GUI design of moving away from skeuomorphism (imitating the look of real things) and towards visual simplicity. Programmers everywhere rejoice: designing a GUI that is pleasant to use may be as hard as ever but at least you don't have to draw fancy textures for it in Photoshop!
